No code — software that allows you to perform tasks that required coding skills — is a hot topic going forward, even if the basic foundation is promised and not fully realized for many years. Related to this are companies like Airtable, which try to create information in relationships and interrogate them as easily as creating a spreadsheet. Now Softr, starting in Berlin, wants to promote the non-coding concept by making it easier to build more Airtable websites without the need for coding.

Recently launched at Product Hunt, today a small company discloses $ 2.2 million in seed funding, previously held by its Armenian founders, CEO Mariam Hakobyan and CTO Artur Mkrtchyan. Leading this cycle are Atlantic Labs, along with Philipp Moehring (Tiny.VC) and founders of GitHub, SumUp, Zeitgold, EyeEm and Rows.

Starting in 2019, Softr has developed a code-free platform to enable anyone to build websites and web applications based on data embedded in Airtable. The idea is to allow Airtable to perform a database grunt function, combined with Softr’s flexible but driven web-based template and web application design.

Shabr’s Hakobyan explains that out of the box startup offers templates for anything from a simple marketing website to e-commerce store web applications, task board, market and more. Those programs can include functionality such as user authentication, gateway content, payments, voting and commenting, etc.

“Softr has zero learning curve and can be used literally by anyone outside the tech domain, as it separates all aspects of technology and focuses on the user in product design and content, rather than technology,” he explains. “Softr uses Airtable as a database, as it makes it easy to create and share related information, without having to read SQL or write scripts. Airtable has gained a lot of popularity over the past few years and is not only used by people but also by Fortune 500 companies ”.

To achieve that, Hakobyan says Softr’s magic is that he uses the concept of “pre-built blocks” (listings, user accounts, payments, etc.) as well as the business idea of managing a lot of difficult promotion in the name of a website creator. “If you use blocks and templates … 70% of the work is already done for the user,” he explained.

In addition, Softr connects to services such as Stripe, PayPal, Mailchimp, Zapier, Integromat, Hotjar, Google Analytics, HubSpot, Drift and more.

Softr is currently used by “a few thousand makers and startups”. Examples of applications built by Softr customers include a language-learning school with a membership, a booking market for children and a community with content gateways and online courses.

Equipped with large sums of money, Softr plans to expand its customer base to non-technical activities for SMBs to help them build internal tools, such as staff indexes, product lists, real estate listings, etc., and perform manual procedures.
